Frequently Asked Questions
- Are all duct systems designed the same?
No. This in my opinion is one of the biggest problems in our industry. Many contractors are simply not educated in duct design. Proper duct design is essential for the proper operation or your heating and air conditioning.
- How efficient of a system do I really need?
The more efficiency you can buy the better. Also it depends on your climate. Does it get hotter or colder where you live. In an area where winters prevail spend your money on a high efficiency furnace and even if you have air conditioning you probably dont use it that often so dont worry about getting to high of a SEER rating on your condensing unit. Then the reverse would be true if you live a predominantly hot climate. Higher SEER the better.
- Do I really need to change my registers?
In most cases yes. You basic stamped face grill is unable to put the air where you really need it. We prefer bar type or curve blade registers which are adjustable an allow the direction of the airflow to be put where you need it the most. Stamp face, or fixed blade registers are used becauase they are inexpensive.
- How often should I change my filter?
Every house is different. Dont be mislead by the "90 day" filters. A pleated filter that says replace every 90 days is actually more efficien therefore gets dirty quicker. Get to know you filter and check it every 30 days. If you wait until you can see through it you waited too long.
- Can I chose the wrong filter?
Yes. The more efficienct some filters are the more restrictive they are. Electrostatc filters are a big problem. Depending on your filter size and the size of your system you may not be able to install certain filters. Ask us or a service professional for further advise.
